I’m sure some of you have noticed that I don’t add specific hotel or store names to any of my posts. It’s in large part due to the fact that none of these places are paying me to advertise and I don’t think omitting names bears any weight on the delivery of a great story. My leaving Perhentian Islands seemed bitter sweet. While I was so over the giant *dogs* mosquitos, horrible service at eateries, and my mind not being able to relay to my stomach that “YOU MUST DO #2 IN THE BATHROOM” I will definitely miss the great things that these islands have to offer. Oh dear Chia. I met her on my second day in Penang while I was sitting down waiting for a bus to Penang Hill. She just started talking to me and asked where I was from. We chatted for a while and since the bus was taking so long she offered to take me on a walk around the area to show me around and give me some pointers on how to navigate around the city. Thanks to my Dora the Explorer skills and the map I printed out at the last minute I managed to find my hostel with no problem. I walked there with this british chick who was on my bus from the airport and was headed in the same direction to her hotel. She was reaching the end of 10 months of travel through Indonesia and Malaysia and was apparently celebrating by toking on the joint she lit while we were walking. Continue reading
