I’m coming up on the rough side of the mountain – Day 3

Camping in the clouds

It was the same shennanigans with the guide today. I slipped and fell on a huge boulder and hurt my hand and this cat was so far away that he had to yell back at me at the top of his lungs and ask if I was ok 😐 . If I hadn’t seen first hand the level of attention that the other guides were giving their clients I wouldn’t even be sweating this dude.  Thank God I’m smart enough to know how to follow footprints and scents otherwise I’d be lost out in the wilderness.

The terrain changes daily and it is getting colder and colder by the second.  One second we were walking through the rainforest then there is a distinct line of demarkation where the heatherlands start…then it gets in to artic temperatures and snow..etc etc.  You know it’s cold as heck if you don’t see one tree around.

Although I’m still pumped up and mentally strong I seem to be losing my appetite a bit but refuse to claim this as a symptom of altitude sickness. I’ve got to keep going forward.

How I roll

Dinner for the night. Eggplant and macaroni..Yum

My NAS impression.. Circa “Illmatic”

I took a bit of advice from Kent on the first day. “Dont look up!” I added to this and make it a point to only look down at my feet as I walk.  Not only paying attention to each foot being placed in front of the other but I look closely at each rock or boulder that I am stepping over.  I imagine this to be people, places or things from my past that I’m stepping over as I move toward the great things that lie ahead.  This has helped me a great deal thus far. I never get discouraged because I don’t know how far I am from the next destination. But I do look back every now and then to see how far I’ve come and it keeps me going.

Almost there

I’m actually climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.. BANANAS!!!!. Day 3 down.  3 more to go!
